The evaluation phase should cover four aspects: Resources and dependencies, network latency and bandwidth, compliance and registration, cost budget. First, list the current service components (applications, databases, storage, load balancing, third-party interfaces), and mark the bandwidth peak and traffic pattern.
1) Verify the instance type and regional availability in the target area, and assess accordingly Bandwidth and public IP requirements ; 2) Test the latency from the target region to the primary user base (using ping/traceroute or third-party monitoring) ; 3) Estimate inbound and outbound traffic and billing model, reserve burst bandwidth ; 4) Check compliance/data master restrictions.
Don’t make your decision solely based on the example prices; ignore them CN2 link Price hikes or bandwidth peaks can lead to overbilling. Confirm the availability of SLB, NAT Gateway, and Elastic IP (EIP) with Alibaba Cloud sales/technical team in advance.
Simulate test traffic to the Alibaba Cloud Singapore node for at least one week of observation, record packet loss and jitter, and determine whether a customized CN2 link or CDN support is required.
The migration process can be divided into five steps: preparation, resource deployment, data synchronization, traffic switching, and rollback mechanism. Each step must have clear acceptance criteria and a rollback plan.
1) Preparation: Create an account, IAM role, VPC, subnet, and security group in the Alibaba Cloud console ; 2) Instance Deployment: Select the appropriate ECS specification and bind an EIP ; 3) Network settings: Create a VRouter, configure the routing table and NAT gateway, and enable the necessary security policies ; 4) Data synchronization: Implement online data replication using DTS/rsync/backup and recovery ; 5) Traffic switching: Start with gray-scale traffic testing before making a complete switch to DNS or BGP.
Ensure that the database's master-slave replication or dual-write mechanism is stable before switching, use a load balancer (SLB) for traffic distribution, and combine health checks to determine when to take the old environment offline.
Retain a certain time window before switching, allowing rollback within the DNS TTL ; In the scenario of BGP switchovers, prepare a backup BGP policy for the existing route as well as a plan for adjusting the AS path.
The core of zero-downtime migration is continuous synchronization and switchover coordination. Common methods include using Alibaba Cloud DTS, master-slave replication, file incremental synchronization tools, and rolling updates via load balancing.
1) Use DTS or MySQL/MariaDB master-slave replication to first set up the slave database in the new environment and wait for data consistency ; 2) After verifying data consistency, perform a short-term switch to writing or utilize a dual-write gateway ; 3) Switch the transaction flow and observe slow queries and latency.
It is recommended to migrate static files to OSS and enable cross-origin and origin-pull policies ; Use ossutil or rsync to perform a full backup first, then incremental backups ; If the business relies on the local file system, consider mounting NAS or using OSSFS.
Ignoring transaction consistency, leaving long-running transactions unresolved, and failing to clear state caches can all lead to data inconsistency. Disable scheduled tasks or external writes before migration, or introduce traffic valve control.
CN2 It is a backbone network optimized for international exports. When using it, attention should be paid to routing, BGP policies, registered IP pools, and coordination with CDN services.
When using Alibaba Cloud's international links (e.g., CN2), confirm the egress node, BGP neighbors, and AS number, and communicate with Alibaba Cloud network support for customized announcements if necessary (e.g., fixed egress IP ranges).
It is recommended to adopt a phased DNS cutover: Low TTL warm-up, grayscale resolution, full cutover. Combining weight-based routing or GSLB allows for traffic distribution across multiple regions, preventing sudden surges in traffic volume.
If using CDN, ensure the origin-pull configuration points to the new ECS or OSS, and configure the origin-pull domain name and origin Host in the CDN console to avoid static resources becoming unavailable due to origin-pull authentication failure.
Common pitfalls include billing discrepancies, IP/Port restrictions, packet loss and prolonged latency, registration and compliance issues, as well as insufficient resource quotas.
Estimate the costs of elastic public IP, bandwidth peak, traffic inflow and outflow, snapshots, and backups in advance ; Apply to increase your quota and closely monitor your bills and CloudMonitor alerts after the switch is made.
Although CN2 is superior, regional packet loss may still occur. Through link testing, MTR monitoring, and Alibaba Cloud work order follow-up ; Enable multi-export or third-party acceleration services as a backup option when necessary.
The Singapore region may have specific data protection requirements; verify data encryption, access control, and log auditing before migration. When an external IP address is added to a blocklist, prepare a backup EIP and work together with the network security team to handle the situation.
